Longworth is a village where people still meet at the pub, the church and the school gate. The thatched Blue Boar is the social hub and even gives its name to the Blue Boar Rugby Football Club, founded in 1977 by staff from an Oxford bookshop and still based at the pub, while boundary changes in 2011 brought the Maybush Inn at Newbridge into the parish, adding a riverside pub on the Thames. Longworth Primary School serves younger children, older pupils travel to secondary schools in the surrounding towns, and Abingdon, Oxford and Faringdon are all within a short drive for shopping and services. The Thames forms the northern boundary of the parish, and Harrowdown Hill rises to around 99 metres in its north-east corner.
Few villages of this size have so much recorded history. St Mary's Church, with 13th-century origins and a reredos by the Arts and Crafts painters Kate and Myra Bunce, is Grade I listed, the Blue Boar was built in 1606, and a 17th-century tithe barn south of the village is Grade II* listed. The novelist R. D. Blackmore, author of Lorna Doone, was born at the Old Rectory in 1825. Homes range from period and thatched cottages to the village's two former chapels, both now private houses, and later family homes.
Longworth has no station of its own. Oxford and Didcot Parkway both have direct Great Western Railway trains to London Paddington, and Radley station near Abingdon has local services between Oxford and Didcot. The A420 skirts the southern edge of the parish for Oxford and Swindon, and bus route 63 runs on weekdays between Southmoor, Longworth and Oxford.
