Living in Letcombe Regis

Village life centres on the Greyhound Inn on Main Street, a pub with an original inglenook fireplace, a garden and eight en-suite rooms, which was named local CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2022. The village hall hosts clubs and events, and Letcombe F.C. plays at Bassett Road. Wantage, about a mile away, has the shops, schools and services, with Charlton Primary School and Wantage Church of England Primary School nearby and King Alfred's for secondary education.

The village appears in the Domesday Book of 1086, and the Regis in its name is thought to mean royal, or the king's. St Andrew's, the Grade II* listed parish church, sits at its heart, and thatched and period cottages stand alongside later family houses, with Letcombe Manor beside the brook. A circular walk of just under four miles follows the Letcombe Brook, one of only two chalk streams in Oxfordshire, through the Letcombe Valley nature reserve, then climbs to meet the Ridgeway near Smith's Hill Farm. Segsbury Camp, an Iron Age hill fort on the crest of the Downs just over a mile to the south, is a short detour for its ramparts and wide views across the Vale of White Horse.

There is no station in the village. Rail commuters head east to Didcot Parkway, around ten miles away, for fast trains to Reading and London Paddington, and Wantage is the gateway to the wider road network.
