A short drive from Devizes town centre, between Devizes and Trowbridge, The Well at Bulkington is a traditional village pub with a spacious, open-plan dining area and bar. Owners Sam and Tim Taylor offer a menu that mixes well-made classic dishes with contemporary fusion flavours, alongside a chosen wine list and quality ales.
The chefs work with local suppliers, every dish is cooked fresh to order, and the kitchen will adapt dishes for dietary requirements where it can. Food is served six days a week and the pub recommends booking a table. It also hosts private events, from celebrations to christenings.
Quercus Bistro at The Peppermill

The Peppermill is a family-run boutique hotel in a pair of 15th-century townhouses on St John's Street, just off the Market Place. The building spent centuries as a coaching inn, and its timber beams are still very much part of the character.
Its ground-floor restaurant is now Quercus Bistro, an independent bistro that also has a restaurant in Royal Wootton Bassett. The cooking is contemporary British with a French-inspired touch, the menu follows the seasons and the kitchen buys from regional suppliers wherever it can. You do not need to be a hotel guest to eat here, and it serves lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Sunday.
1 Spice

1 Spice is a modern Indian restaurant and takeaway in the town centre. Alongside the familiar curry house favourites, the menu includes speciality dishes from several regions of India, and the kitchen pounds its spices fresh and fries them in ghee to bring out the flavour.
It is open seven days a week for lunch and in the evening, and you can eat in, book a table or order online for collection, which makes it a useful one to know when you are still unpacking boxes.

Originally a 16th-century coaching inn, The George & Dragon in Rowde, on the A342 between Devizes and Chippenham, combines modern style with plenty of country character.
Seafood is the speciality here, with fish delivered daily from St Mawes in Cornwall. There is an outdoor space for eating outside, and three refurbished bedrooms if you want to make a night of it. Food is served at lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, with lunch only on Sundays.

Whilst not a traditional restaurant, Tea Inc. has too good a reputation to leave off this list. Tucked down The Ginnel off the Market Place, it is a family-owned independent tearoom with over 90 loose leaf teas, good coffee and not a teabag in sight.
Lunch is served from 12pm to 2pm, with sweet and savoury scones and crumpets available all day and full afternoon teas usually served from 2.15pm. There is always a choice of vegan and gluten-free options. Tea Inc. is open Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays.
The Black Swan
