One of our landlords’ properties in Donnington Square, a historic gem in Newbury, recently underwent a much-needed renovation. With Jones Robinson's support, the project revitalised this mid-1800s property, addressing structural, plumbing, electrical, and cosmetic concerns.
The house was bought in the early 1960s by the landlord’s parents and they wanted it to stay in the family, being passed down through generations. The house dates back to the mid-1800s and hasn’t had any major work carried out since it was built other than when it was originally converted into flats. It required very extensive structural work as well as plumbing, electrical and decorative work throughout.
Donnington Square’s landlord, Jane, relied on Jones Robinson’s property management team for oversight and guidance throughout. She said: “I have been delighted with the support I’ve received from Anna Hill and Jack Tibble at Jones Robinson, who oversaw the project. I don’t live locally, so I’ve been dependent upon them at every stage of the refurbishment.”

“Jones Robinson were instrumental in arranging and overseeing the works. They were very responsive, always keeping me in the loop and offering sensible solutions to any issues that arose.
“They offered good advice about appropriate decoration, kitchen and bathroom finishes, and helped me make good choices which would attract tenants.
“I felt that they kept costs as low as possible for me, whilst ensuring that work was of a good standard.”
Following the refurbishment, the flats attracted immediate interest, validating the necessity and success of the project. Due to the beautiful renovation carried out by Jones Robinson’s trusted contractors, a significant rent increase meant that one of the flats increased from £795 per month to £1,350 per month – a 70% increase!

“Once the flats were ready, the reletting went very smoothly, partly because the property management team was always on hand to assist with any queries from the lettings team.” Jane said, “The refurbishment meant that all four flats are now in an excellent condition, and as a result, there were multiple offers from potential tenants as soon as they came to market. Although the refurbishment work was obviously a major investment, they were absolutely essential, and the flats now command much higher rents as a result.”
