Jones Robinson set to work at local day centre for the over 60s
Long-term clients and returning home movers might already be aware of Jones Robinson’s affiliation with the Volunteer Centre West Berkshire but if you’re using us for the first time, we’re be delighted to tell you a little more about our sponsorship of the centre and our most recent activity. The Volunteer Centre West Berkshire is a Newbury-based charity designed to match local people with local needs. The charity works tirelessly to encourage people to volunteer their time and skills. That includes us here at Jones Robinson.
When the call came in from the Volunteer Centre that a local charity for elderly people could do with some DIY help, we were only too pleased to swap our suits and ties for overalls and rollers. The Age Concern Fair Close Day Centre in Newton Road, Newbury, is an independent charity that supports elderly people in our neighbourhood, cooking fresh food daily, conducting a ‘meals on wheels’ service, organising day trips and providing over 60s with access to a welfare officer. The charity doesn’t receive a penny in funding from the local council or government to cover running costs, leaving it solely reliable on charitable donations and the goodwill of others.
Luckily, Fair Close day centre got in touch with the Volunteer Centre and was able to secure help in the shape of Jones Robinson!
Over the course of two days in June, almost 20 members of our estate and lettings agency team prepped, sanded, cleaned and painted areas of the day centre that were in need of repair. It was a great opportunity to work as a team outside of our normal office environment and also gave us an excellent chance to meet some of Newbury and Thatcham’s elders. We heard some wonderful tales about the neighbourhood in years gone by and there was plenty of praise for the excellent work that Age Concern at Fair Close undertakes – underlining just how valuable a centre like this is.
Over the years Jones Robinson has formed a close alliance with the Volunteer Centre West Berkshire and its Director, Garry Poulson, making it our main company charity. We have been delighted to support its annual recruitment drives, part fund a community car, raise funds for the charity via social events and volunteer staff to help with local projects.
