Jones Robinson's Charity Sleepout
On a chilly night in October 2023, a group of 17 dedicated staff from our Jones Robinson and Church Robinson offices braved the elements for a noble cause, sleeping outside our Newbury office in Inches Yard in Newbury, to raise awareness and funds for those facing homelessness. The sleepout lasted from 7pm to 7am the next day, and it was a remarkable experience that left a lasting impact on everyone involved.
The experience proved to be an incredible journey. Participant Jo Woolley shared her insights: "It was a tough night, especially for us older members of our staff, who struggled with comfort and warmth. The conditions were challenging, with a mild drizzle during the night, but we persevered."
For many, the experience was a stark reminder of the hardships that homeless individuals face daily. Sleeping on the cold ground, exposed to the elements, is something most of us don't even think about. It was a humbling experience that allowed the team to gain a small glimpse into the lives of those less fortunate.
But the ultimate goal was to make a difference, and we certainly did, raising approximately £5,000 during the week of the sleepout date, bringing our total raised so far this year to an impressive £9,266 at the time of writing. This achievement represents 61% of our target of £15,000, for our nominated charities, which include Loose Ends in Newbury, a vital organisation that provides assistance to vulnerable individuals and those without homes in our community.
Chloe Morey, who heads up our charity committee, summed up our collective feelings: "We were so relieved to complete the challenge and are absolutely delighted with the amount of money raised. This will go a long way in assisting those in need."
